I'm glad you found your way to Garrigan's Island, even if most of my fourth graders don't get the reference anymore. I am a second career teacher, meaning I had a whole other career before making it back to where I originally started my college studies. I have 3 children- Emily, Abby and Sam, and a wonderful wife, Jen, who teaches pre-school in PA. I commute from New Oxford, PA every day. I realized I needed to teach, while coaching children's sports. I have high expectations, however I have not lost the coach's instinct to encourage and nurture to get the best from my students.
I run out Glade Garden Club and I am one of the STEM leaders in our building, along with Mr. McKenzie, and I try to incorporate Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics throughout the curriculum. Hands on is the best way to learn. Students enjoy "doing" lessons more than memorizing or listening to lecture. Below you will see a scrolling slideshow of some of the great things we've done in my class, with STEM and with our Garden Club.
